With the typhoon Sendong that hit the country that made a lot of destructions with our neighboring City of Mindanao particularly Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City, everyone was so sorry and saddened by the incident. As a school community, we normally have a yearly Love Drive collection and distribution in the month of December and January respectively as one of our Advent – Christmas activity. For this year we particularly channeled our Love Drive to the victims of typhoon Sendong.

We launch the collection of this Love Drive on the first day of December. We had the campaign of each member of the community- students, teachers, sisters and staff: each one will bring one (1) or more canned good/s on a particular week, one (1) or more cup/s of rice, and one (1) or more pack/s of noodles. Other than we encourage each one to open their closet or cabinet to see whatever they don’t really need and they can give to others especially to those who need it most. As practiced by the school, we only distribute the love drive in January, Friday before the Feast of Epiphany.

This year, with what happen in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City with the victims of typhoon Sendong, we decided to send all that we collected for our love drive. We gathered 4 sacks (of 25-30 kilos) of rice, 4 big boxes of noodles, 4 boxes of canned goods, 7 sacks of clothing for adults and children and 3 other boxes with assorted content. This is the school’s simple contribution other than our daily prayers for the victims. The Philippine Delegation also donated a certain amount of money to both Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro City victims. We also have the Advent- Christmas caroling (praying and singing of songs) to the houses of our students and their families. The little money that we got we also share for this same purpose. All the money and goods gathered, we channeled through the Social Action Ministry of the Diocese of Ipil and Ateneo de Zamboanga University respectively. Here in Ipil and in Zamboanga City, some sisters, teachers and students also volunteered to help in the segregation and packing of the goods that will be given and distributed to the victims. Up to these days of January, there is still a continued call to help the victims for them to stand again.

We continue to unite our hearts in prayers and in our small way we stay in solidarity with our suffering brothers and sisters by sharing the little and whatever we have.
