“The best ministry that we can do today is to listen” this is what one of the youth said after having participated a conference about the importance of God in the lives of the youth today.

In celebration of the Year of the Youth in the Philippines, the Amante de Maria Mariological Marian Society of the Philippines in cooperation with Marian Solidarity for Pope Francis hosted the 2019 Marian conferences with the theme: Mary the Model of Sanctity for today’s Youth.

The topic for the last Marian Conference was the Relevance of God in the Lives of Today’s Youth. The speaker of the said talk was Fr. Rafael Dela Cruz, SDB. He used Christus Vivit Chapters one to four in his presentation.

Thus, the sisters brought some of the youth leaders form Botanical Community and some of our scholars. The conference was held at the San Carlos Seminary Auditorium, EDSA, Guadalupe, Makati City. The mere going to the venue was already a thrilling experience for the scholars since they usually just go out of their houses to go to school.

But more importantly, they were able to bring home learnings that they can apply in their daily lives.

Below is a reflection of Jancent C. Villas, one of the scholars who joined. She is 16 years old and she is a Grade XI Senior High School Student.

I am grateful to the sisters that we were invited to participate in the conference because through it, I learned the importance of communication with the Lord and with other people.

I also learned the importance of listening. Listening seems to be the easiest thing to do because one just needs ear in order to listen. However, it can be the hardest thing to do because it requires discipline, effort, understanding and patience.

As a part of the youth ministry and as an older one, I should be a good listener. I and the rest of the older youth should be the one helping and guiding the younger ones who are struggling. This is because the best ministry that we can do today is to listen to someone’s pain and to help them all the way from the bottom and bring them to the highest of all, our Lord God.

The second thing I’ve learned is not to give up on all things especially on God. Even if I have problems and challenges in life, I should not forget to pray and communicate with our Lord God because He will help us overcome all the challenges as He prepares us for something better for us.

“El mejor apostolado que podemos hacer hoy, es escuchar” esto es lo que ha dicho una joven después de haber participado en una conferencia sobre la importancia de Dios en las vidas de los jóvenes de hoy. 

Con motivo de  la Celebración del el “Año de los Jóvenes en Filipinas, la “Sociedad de Amantes de María” de Filipinas con la cooperación “Solidaridad Mariana por el Papa Francisco” organizó  para el año 2109 una serie de conferencias con el tema: “María, modelo de santidad para los Jóvenes de hoy”.

El tema de la última conferencia fue: “Relevancia de Dios en las vidas de los jóvenes de hoy”. El ponente fue el Padre Rafael de le Cruz de la Sociedad de Don Bosco. Se basó en los Capítulos del 1 al 4  de Christus Vivit”. Las Esclavas de Manila llevamos a esa conferencia al Grupo de Jóvenes del barrio “Jardín Botánico” con quien trabajamos todos domingos (catequesis y formación), y a nuestras becadas.

Las conferencias tuvieron lugar en el Auditorio del Seminario de San Carlos en Makati, uno de los barrios de más lujosos de Manila. Fue una experiencia emocionante para nuestros becados que solo salen de su casa para ir a la escuela del pobre barrio en que viven. Pero lo más importante es que se llevaron a casa lecciones muy ricas para su vida diaria. Lo que sigue a continuación es la reflexión hecha por Jancent C. Villas, una de nuestras becadas que participaron Jancent, una joven de 16 años y está estudiando primero de bachillerato.

 “Agradezco  a las Hermanas Spínola el haberme invitado a las conferencias Marianas porque a través de ellas me he dado cuenta de la importancia de comunicarse con el Señor y con otras  personas.

He aprendido también la importancia de escuchar al Señor y a los demás. A primera vista parece fácil, pues solo necesitamos tener oídos para oír, sin embargo escuchar es una de las cosas más difíciles, porque exige disciplina, esfuerzo, comprensión y paciencia.

Como miembro del Apostolado Juvenil, y como mayor en edad, debo de ser un buen “oyente”, y todos nosotros, los mayores del grupo, tenemos que ayudar y guiar a los demás jóvenes en sus luchas y fatigas.

Esto es así porque, el mejor apostolado que podemos hacer hoy, es escuchar a alguien que está sufriendo, ayudar a esa persona y escucharla desde nuestro ser más profundo, y hasta lo más alto posible, hasta acercarla a nuestro Dios y Señor.

La segunda cosa que he aprendido es a no cansarse de las cosas, especialmente de Dios. Aunque tenga problemas y retos en la vida, no debo de olvidar el rezar y comunicarme con Dios porque Él nos ayudará a superar  los problemas o desafíos de la vida, mientras que nos prepara para cosas mejores.
