“It was the first time our family gathered for prayer, the experience is so beautiful” Teacher Ginalou D. Sagal claims as she shares her experience of the Covid-19 Lockdown Prayer.
Tuesday, May 19,2020 when the Campus Minister, Sr. Elmor C. Balnig, ADC shared to the Spinola Educators a prayer ritual made for family in light of this time of pandemic. The environment changed when Sr. Elmor casted the challenge to the educators- to experience the prayer with their own families as the first recipients before the students and their families.
The prayer consists of these 3 important things to reflect upon: 3- significant things you discover about yourself, family and others/creation, 2- things I am grateful for, 1- significant experience. What are essential for you? Write/draw them in the shelves. How do I want to live my life differently? How do I want my family to live this remaining lockdown days differently? Show this in a human sculpture.
Many if not all were anxious and tensed. Thoughts like- “Will I be able to convince my family in prayer? Will I be able to facilitate and gather them? Will it be successful?” roamed around the MSS AVR that morning. After lunch time, the educators then flew off to their respective homes to set and prepare the family for prayers. Bringing fears and uncertainty, they went home and faced off the challenge. And, it was all a success. 8:00 pm in the evening when the MSS Family with Love Group Chat (Facebook Messenger) beeps so many messages and pictures of the prayers done in the individual homes. Everyone was happy seeing the different scenarios and snaps of the family prayer. Some educators even broke barriers and distance as they had also prayed with their families from afar via ZOOM, phone calls and messenger. This only proves that not a pandemic like this can hinder a family bonding in prayer. Many also who have not taken their turns yet were amazed and inspired by the testimonial experiences of the educators. The educators defeated the awkwardness and experienced the power of prayer.
Thursday, May 21 on the same venue, educators gathered for feedbacks and sharing of experiences regarding the prayer. Starting with an individual activity (Metacognition) where educators where asked to identify their most significant experience, the most difficult part of the prayer and the thing they would like to change considering the flow, the prayer guide, and other important things. The educative community were inspired by some genuine and significant experiences of the family prayer, the difficulties, included. Thoughts were heard and considered for a better prayer activity for the second recipients who are the students and their families.
Indeed, this life-changing pandemic imposes to us a challenge of oneness in prayers. God is our healer, in our prayers, he hears.
The following are significant statements of the Educators about their COVID-19 Lockdown Prayer Experience:
